What does DAN cost?
At under $139 a month, DAN is one of the most affordable options for a fully featured digital Display & Alert Network solution. We currently have two plans. Educational ($69 USD/mo) which is catered to the educational facilities of the world, and the Commercial version ($139 USD/mo), which is for everyone else.
This price is per system, Each additional system you add is simply charged to you according to your type (education/commercial)
More information can be found on our pricing & signup page.
Is our data safe? How is your uptime?
We perform system wide security tests on a daily basis. Also, our host has a 99% uptime guarantee. All information is fully backed up, and we can perform a system-wide restore in case of emergency.

What is the difference between Educational and Commercial
DAN comes in two flavors: Educational and Commercial.
Because DAN was initially created by the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah, we have an affinity for helping out educational and non-profit institutions. There is no difference between the two packages, just us trying to help out education.
What can I do with DAN?
While DAN can't cure the flu, it can do a host of other things:
- Display any image in any common web format (gif, jpg, png)
- Display any media in nearly any common web format (mov, avi, mpg)
- Display any flash file for animations
- Display any web page/application formatted for the DAN display system
As of right now, DAN cannot (yet):
- Play DVD's or CD's inserted into the computer (however you can encode or 'rip' DVD's you have permission to and upload those as a video file)
- Play live TV (we're working on this one, though)
Do I need special hardware?
Nope. There is nothing you need to run DAN that you can't get at your local computer retailer. All that is requred is:
- A modern, Internet capable computer
- A reliable internet connection
- Some sort of display monitor (LCD, Plasma, etc.)
We do not sell hardware, nor do we install it. We simply provide a display service, however we're more than happy to send you recommendations for display installation.
There are some system requirements to make DAN work its best, and those requirements can be found in our minimum requirements and recommendations pamphlet.
Do I need to install special software?
Since DAN is fully web based, all that is required is a standards compliant browser, and a few plugins:
If you use a PC: We strongly recommend using Firefox. Once you browse to your display, hit F11 and you're set.
If you use a Mac: We recommend Safari (already installed on all Macs) with the Saft plugin. As of right now, Saft does cost $12 for a license.
This allows your PC or Mac to display DAN in a full screen mode.
The administrative tool to manage DAN systems can be accessed by any browser connected to the internet. It even works on an iPhone.
Do you have any hardware recommendations?
Absolutely. You can download our pamphlet that outlines the minimum requirements and recommendations for using DAN.
Can we install DAN on our own servers?
No. DAN is a software-as-a-service application. DAN is hosted on Akadi servers and we do not offer stand alone installations for DAN. This allows us to reliably push out updates, maintain security, and upgrades, so you don't need a dedicated IT staff to run DAN.
What is your refund policy?
Since DAN is a month-to-month service, we do not provide refunds. You can cancel your DAN subscription at any time and terminate your billing, but you will not be refunded for any 'unused' time.
What kind of support do you provide?
Akadi will provide unlimited support via email for DAN. We do not, however, provide any phone support. We try to answer emails on the same day.
Can I advertise on DAN?
Absolutely. In fact, Akadi is currently developing the AkadiMatch™ system that will allow you to find advertisers who would like to target ads to your customers. This will be available in the first few months of 2008.
What are the minimum requirements to run DAN?
You can download our pamphlet that outlines the minimum requirements and recommendations for using DAN.
What is the Alert Network? How does it work?
One of the unique features of DAN is the ability to push out emergency alert messages to every display on your system(s). This will immediately display a message on every display showing your system(s). This is simply done by using the DAN admin tool.
Do you offer a site license?
Good question. Drop us a line and we'll chit-chat.
Do you have an API?
Not yet, however you can develop any application/website to run on DAN in any programming language. As long as you have your own web server, you can develop any content for your DAN system.
Do you make custom templates or applications
Absolutely. For a pre-negotiated fee, we can create a custom template or custom application for you. Simply contact us and let us know what you'd like to see.
